Week 8 Part B: Blogs, Vlogs, Podcasts & Webinars PLUS How Adding a Personal Touch to Posts Can Help

My business could definitely use a vlog or blog to build connections with customers by showcasing client stories and experiences. I think this would give people the chance to see themselves in what is being shared. It helps people to picture what a successful rec therapy session looks like and how services could benefit them in their specific area of interest.

I think that adding a personal touch to a post can be done in all sorts of scenarios, even if just providing information and facts. Even the aesthetics of a post can feel more personal and relatable. You can infuse your posts with the ethos of the company and align the language and material to the tone of the post author. With vlogs this can look like having the same intro and outro each time, or having a title card that is reflective of the company.

I think that there is a delicate balance when you are providing a health care service like my hypothetical business is. You want to appear professional, safe, and reliable but not cold or impersonal. One way this could play out would be highlighting specific staff members in posts. By sharing their education, background, professional qualifications etc. I would be showcasing the professionalism and high standards of our hiring while also putting a face to the name in a sense. Another method might be a "behind the scenes" sort of feature where you give viewers a look into what goes into a session or excursion before the customer even shows up. This is both personal and professional as you are showing viewers the preparation and thought that goes into a session and the people that are coordinating everything.

A lot of the rec therapy instagrams and Facebooks I have followed for this class use staff and client highlights to bring a personal touch. They use mini vlogs in the form of Reels and TikToks. Additionally, there are quite a few practitioners that host their own podcasts or appear as guests on other podcasts. I can't think of any businesses that point blank would not be able to use this style of posting, but I suppose there are some that would benefit less such as highly technical or manufacturing companies. Perhaps also businesses that provide a very straightforward service like oil changes.
